How to choose the right SBI FD tenure
- Match tenure to your cash-flow goal so you do not need premature withdrawal.
- Compare cumulative vs monthly/quarterly payout based on income needs.
- Check senior citizen eligibility if the deposit holder qualifies.
- Use the SBI FD calculator with the exact slab rate before placing the FD.
SBI fixed deposit rates for senior citizens
SBI generally offers resident senior citizens an extra 0.50% p.a. (50 bps) over regular FD rates. This senior premium is usually for eligible resident depositors, while NRE and NRO depositors are typically not covered under this additional benefit.
SBI also runs special senior-focused offerings. Under SBI Patrons (for super senior citizens), eligible customers can receive an additional 0.10% p.a. (10 bps) over and above the standard senior premium. SBI has also offered the SBI Wecare Deposit Scheme, where eligible seniors can get an extra 0.50% p.a. (50 bps) above the usual senior rate, typically for tenures of 5 years and above. These scheme benefits are generally available for both fresh deposits and renewal of maturing deposits, subject to prevailing SBI terms. You can compare this with HDFC FD interest rates and ICICI FD rates.
